MSVU Digital Commons
Welcome to the MSVU Digital Commons. The MSVU Digital Commons acts as an institutional repository and is a service of the MSVU Library that collects, preserves, and distributes digital material. Institutional Repositories are important tools for preserving an organization's legacy; they facilitate digital preservation and scholarly communication.
Mount Saint Vincent University has an Open Access policy with regards to research produced by faculty, academic, and professional staff members, which can be viewed here
This site is organized into "Communities" and "Collections". Communities are usually departments with MSVU (e.g. Public Relations, . Collections are a subcategories of Communities and may be divided along the lines of individual faculty members and their various, or more broader themes such as MSVU Theses and research projects such as the Social Economy Space. You can also do a full-text search of all of the items in the Digital Commons.
The Digital Commons is a space for a variety of scholarly and institutional output from MSVU and beyond. Our current content includes graduate theses, images from some of the Library's special collections, senate minutes, research project outputs (SE space) and faculty publications, among others. Using the Digital Commons:
The Digital Commons is organized into communities, sub-categories, and collections. Communities are broad, overarching categories and include such things as MSVU departments or research projects. Sub-communities are subsets of communities and often include the works of individual faculty members. Collections are subcategories of both communities and sub-communities and are usually grouped into themes, organized by format (e.g. journal articles, conference papers, theses), or by a subject-based themes for research projects.
You can navigate the Digital Commons by using the Browse and Search menus on the right-hand menu. When browsing, you can select the "Communities and Collections" option to get a hierarchical overview of the MSVU Digital Commons. If the page that you are on is a collection page, you will be given the option to browse or search within the collection. You can always see your present position within the Digital Commons site by looking at the breadcrumb trail, which is found just below the logo on the top of the screen.
